Hello fellow #Wanderers,
As the summer came to an end, so too did a piece of art work that sat bobbing near my home.
We gathered on the boardwalk to say goodbye to the most inconvenient convenience store there ever was. (And one I've photographed more times than I can count.)
The performance piece of the store, set off a performance piece of mourners, music, designated criers, and a lot of laughter from those looking on.
Float on, you beautiful inconvenience.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
Cities become a particularly interesting experience as you wander. Montreal is no different. Neighbourhoods overlap giving spaces to interesting mixes of people, and shops. Even their biodome has neighbourhoods.
In the evenings the city glows as cafés’ light spills onto the sidewalk and people dance in the park.
It's a city that rewards wandering.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
When building my posts, I try to group photos by a place, or a theme, or something that flows a little more. But that’s not always the case, sometimes it really is just about random moments from my past.
Going back through the archives, sometimes these posts are just about brief moments. The in-between moments. The ones that never belonged to a single trip.
Sometimes it’s spaces in London. Sometimes it’s Winnipeg, Chicago, or The Okanagan. Sometimes it’s just a beach in Ontario.
Not every favourite has a story. Some just have a feeling.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
One of the few places in the city where I can escape into nature is High Park. I still go by often and try to just reconnect with the beauty nature has to offer. On one late September evening I decided to go for sunset and golden hour, and I was not disappointed. Gold on the path, pink over the water, the first maples already turning red.
As if the colour wasn't enough, a heron was just hanging out, standing in the shallows like it had nowhere else to be. Neither did I.

My last post from High Park got me thinking about how far my photography has come. So I figured I'd start going back over old photos.
Over the years, Toronto has been a big focus. Of course it has, I've lived here most of my life. But as I look back I think about all the moments that these photos are linked to.
The Scott Pilgrim final book launch in Mirvish Village.
Foggy walks down by the waterfront when I lived off Roncy.
Summers on the island, and winters by the skating rink.
I may not have always had the best eye, but I was always drawn to photography. And there's something interesting about looking back and seeing what beginner's luck looked like for me.

This week's photo challenge was "your style". I couldn't have asked for a better prompt and a new opportunity. @vsco was hosting a photowalk in High Park.
I've spent a lot of years at the park, and there is never a bad time of year to go out for a wander in the park.
So with the park at peak colours, a crowd of photographers, and the mid day afternoon sun out, I got to try and answer the question of what is "my style".
I still don't think I have a great answer. But I think these photos look really nice.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
Sometimes, it's nicer to take the slower path. The roads that veer off the highway but still get you to where you need to go. It's not always clear what you'll find, if anything, but there's something nice about slowing down and taking a look at what's around.
On the road to Quebec, instead of staying on the highway, @saintc suggested hitting up the Thousand Island Parkway. A small change of pace, but with a world of difference when it came to the scenery.
Of course, not everyone is going to pull the car over every 5 minutes to take photos, but to each their own. :)

Something a little different — a light painting night put on by @eyedot.to. Long exposures, moving light, and a fair bit of trial and error, which is exactly the fun of it.
Huge thanks to the models, who stood still in the cold while a bunch of us photographers were very much still learning. And thanks to the @eyedot.to crew for bringing the light and putting on a fun night.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
Wrapping up a few more shots that I just haven't gotten around to posting yet.
I've noticed that now, when I'm getting up in the morning, I'm beating the sun. Funny how things change in just a few weeks.
There's that feeling that another year is drawing to a close and as it does I look back at everything from the last year.
I'm sure I'll go into some crazy retrospective sooner or later, but right now I'm looking back over stuff from September and just thinking I'm really glad I got a lot of the opportunities to shoot the things I did.
It wasn't crazy out of the way, it wasn't even stuff I was asked for, it was just stuff I got a chance to see myself, witness and watch. And now I can share with you.
And that's what I've always wanted to do with my photography. Give a little more time to contemplate those brief moments that move me.

Some days at the lake are about the big views. This one was about looking down — the forest floor was full of small things putting on a show. Then the light changed, the sky did its thing, and the stars finished the job.

There's something about Niagara Falls after dark. The whole place leans into it — the falls lit up like they're showing off, fireworks in the sky, neon everywhere, crowds just happy to be out in it. It's loud and bright and a little bit much, in the best possible way.
And somehow the next morning actually seems quieter giving you a chance to stop and smell the flowers.
Summer nights don't get much better than that.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
My photographer friend @yul1988 called me to wish me happy birthday. While we were talking I mentioned the photography challenge and how it’s changed how much I’m shooting and editing.
She said that I’ve also probably improved as a photographer. Knowing what I want to shoot and getting the shot I want.
So I decided to do the math.
In 2025 I exported about 6% of the photos I shot.
In 2026, even though the year isn’t over, I’ve exported 12% of the photos I’ve shot. The goal isn’t to get to some crazy number, the goal is to learn more of what I like to edit, and to work to take those shots more.

Hello fellow #Wanderers,
I’d like to say that I’m almost there but, still way more to go which maybe is a good sign.
45 was a good year. I think we tend to miss out on the nuance of a year when we try to just remember things. For me, at least, my mind tends to go to what I missed doing, or didn’t do, or compare myself to others.
Photography has been a helpful thing to remind me just how far I’ve come. What I’ve done. And the stories I picked up along the way.
Going back over even older photos, I can usually still remember the stories around them.
And who doesn’t love a good story?

Still going through my favourite photos I took while 45.
Because of photo challenge my shooting has gone way up this year.
I’ll have full totals in a few months obviously, but I’ve more than doubled the photos I’ve exported from last year. What’s really good to see is my shooting rate to work has gone up too. So I’m taking more photos that I end up working on and end up exporting. Hopefully a sign that I’m liking my own work more.

Really trying to get through as many of these as I can. But I will say, I am really happy with the way my photography has grown in the past year. It’s weird looking back over old shots. I see a lot I really don’t like but a lot that I’m really happy with.
And considering how much more I’m shooting this year…it’s been a real increase in the keepers.
We’ll see at the end of the year when I work on my 2026 photo challenge wrap.
